Be your own best friend… love who are you, fight for yourself, take care of you. Chase after what makes you happy.
Having person-centred therapy myself is what brought me to make the decision to study to become a person-centred therapist. Person-centred therapy harnesses the client’s natural self-healing process. Given the right relationship with the therapist, clients can decide what they want to do with their lives.
I was born into an army environment as my father was a serving soldier, I moved around the world attending many different schools which as a child I found very difficult, not only educationally but building friendships and relationships was very difficult, not knowing where I fitted in and all this for a young child is very unstable. I married a soldier at a young age, then I went on and had a daughter but sadly when she was six months old he was killed in Northern Ireland. I have a lot of life experience of difficult situations that I have overcome. All this encompassed is what brought me into the counselling world. My previous work experiences of supporting children and adults range from working with lone parents and their children on providing a holistic support package of needs, to working with soldiers who have been injured whilst being deployed to a war zone and loss of limbs. Support was offered to the soldier but also to the family as when a person is injured it affects the whole family. Working for Help for Heroes was about supporting veterans who had left the forces that were struggling with moving into civilian life, but also struggling with all levels of mental health including PTSD.

Martha is a fantastic counsellor I have seen first hand how she works in group sessions when out on our walking groups. Martha is very professional and attentive with how she delivers therapy. I have had 121 sessions with her and without a shadow of a doubt Martha listened without judgement and was able to help me understand patterns within my life as well as help me to see different ways to deal with things. I'm would recommend Martha to anyone needing some counselling. Also knowing Martha has military background helped me to open up about myself abit more whilst in the forces, without feeling misunderstood or patronised. She completely understood what I was saying.
